Promoting Nerd Culture

Nerdy Thursdays is a signature event series produced by the Black Gotham Experience that was originally conceived by Kamau Ware and William “GoodWill” Ellis in 2017 as part of an artistic residency in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. The series evolved into a celebrated communal learning space for the creative enterprising nerdy person. These events focus on culture with experiential learning and community building that features a Black Gotham Experience walking tour, a live podcast, books, DJs, discussions, and signature drinks.

Idea

  • Inspire social justice and impact via social engament

  • Tell deeper stories and narratives via deep experiential story telling

  • Create safe, empowering and inspirational space for Nerds of color

  • Utilize art, panel discussions, guest speakers, DJ sets, curated books, food/beverages and interactive experinces to encouage and inpsire peronsal and communal growth

  • Partner with institutions to create educational and entertaining events that breath new life in to them and help bolster thier progomatic offerings.

  • Foster economic empowerment by colaberinting and partneringh with black owned businesses

Results

  • 4 years of programming

  • Over 80 events

  • Over 2000 participants in attendance
